Surat Ar-Rahman is the 55th letter in the Qur'an. The letter that was revealed in makesha or makkayah consists of 78 verses. Named Ar-Rahman means the Most Gracious. This word comes from the word Ar-Rahman contained in the first verse of this sura. Ar-Rahman is one of God's names. Most of these suras describe the mercy of God. to His servants, by giving unlimited blessings both in the world and in the Hereafter.

The characteristic of this sura is the recurring sentence 31 times Fa-biayyi alaa'i Rabbi kuma tukadzdzi ban (So which favors of your Lord do you deny?) Which lies at the end of each verse explaining the blessings of God given to man.

This chapter begins with a verse which is a proof, a sign, and a manifestation. The first is the Most Merciful God, who taught knowledge of Himself through the Qur'an (al-Mizan). The first manifestation of God is His light, the light of knowledge. The unbelievers want to extinguish the light of God and His command, but God does not allow it because "God is the light of heaven and earth."

This chapter ends with the phrase "Mahaberkah" (tabaraka). Mahaberkah is one of God's names. If man calls on the name of God, then God will approach his residence.

Content of Surah Ar Rahman

1. Faith:

God taught men good at speaking; trees and plants submit to God; God is always busy; the whole of nature is the blessing of Allah to mankind; man was created from the soil and the jinn from the fire.

2. Laws:

Obligation to measure, measure, weigh fairly.

3. And Others:

Man and jinn can not escape from the power of God s.w.t. many of the people who are not grateful for God's blessings; nubuwat about the things that will happen and things that really happen like the Sues and Panama canals.

The Benefits of Surat Ar Rahman

The Messenger of Allah said: "Whoever reads the letter of Al-Rahman, Allah will love his weakness and bless the blessings bestowed on him." (Tafsir Nur Ats-Tsaqalayn 5/187).

Imam Ja'far Ash-shadiq (sa) said: "Whoever reads the letter of Ar-Rahman, and when he reads the phrase 'Fabiayyi' Rabbikum 'tukadzdzibân', he pronounces: Lâ bisyay-in min âlâika Rabbî akdzibu (none of the favors- Thy Lord, my God, whom I deny), if when he read it at night then he died, then his death as the death of a martyr; if you read it in the daytime then die, then its death is like the death of a martyr. "(Tsawabul A'mal, p. 117).

 Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq (sa) said: "Do not leave reading the letter of Al-Rahman, awaken the night with him, this letter does not reassure the hypocrites, you will find his Lord with him on the Day of Judgment, his form as the most human form beautiful, and smells most fragrant. On the Day of Resurrection no one stands before God who is closer to Him than he is.
