This audio guide will lead you through the permanent exhibition of the Estonian History Museum, “SPIRIT OF SURVIVAL – 11,000 years of Estonian history”, as well as the interesting story of the mediaeval Great Guild Hall by introducing unique items and architectural details.

The Great Guild Hall is one of the grandest mediaeval public buildings in Tallinn, and it has been preserved in its full glory. Visitors will see the magnificent halls of the Gothic building, which was built in 1410, and its cellar, which since the renovation in 2011, was opened to the public for the first time. This large merchant building in a Hanseatic town became the Stock Exchange in the 19th century and in addition to business, cultural life also flourished here. Art exhibitions and theatrical performances were organized here, and the first ever film in Estonia was also shown in the Great Guild Hall in 1896. The Estonian History Museum has operated in the building since 1952.

The permanent exhibition “SPIRIT OF SURVIVAL – 11,000 years of Estonian history” on display in the Great Guild Hall helps us understand Estonian identity and introduces historic events that have affected Estonians the most.
