Vinyl fencing is a great alternative to wooden fencing. It is important to take your time when planning your fence using vinyl. Vinyl fence panels need to be installed correctly to avoid issues after time goes by. There are three types of vinyl fence panels; line posts, which are used for straight pieces, corner posts, which are used for angled pieces, and end posts, which are end pieces or gate pieces.

Since vinyl is made from a strong plastic it will never rust, rot, or require painting. If you end up having vinyl fence panels that are too big, you can cut them down just like you would a wooden panel. They are sturdy and durable. Before heading out to purchase fencing, check on the zoning regulations in your area first. Often cities have zoning regulations regarding the height and placement of fences. You want to make sure that your plans will be in regulation to avoid costly fines.

When you are ready to put the fence up, start with the fence posts. Stake these out first and get them into the ground good and sturdy. Dig a hole down at least 20 inches. The bottom of the hole will need to be wider than the top. This will help prevent the pole from getting pushed out during frost. With vinyl fencing you can pour the concrete in either before or after you put in the post.

Each vinyl fence panel should be clearly marked for where it needs to be attached to each post. The panels most frequently can be attached to the posts with a screw. All pieces should be included in with the vinyl fencing you purchase.

It is important to keep weather in mind. If it is too hot when you put your vinyl fencing up this can cause warping in the fence line. Installing your new fence should be done on a mild weather day. It is also important to follow directions clearly, and specifically. Not installing your fence properly can lead to issues with it down the road.

Fences are usually made up of segments, or fence panels, rather than a single piece that runs along the entire perimeter. Fencing panels can be made of wood, metal, vinyl, concrete, or some other composite material. Each panel has vertical or horizontal boards on the outer face, and two or more cross members holding them together. Having fences split up into multiple, separately sold components (or sets) offers a greater degree of flexibility during installation.

A typical fence panel is 5 to 8 feet in length. To determine the number of panels needed, you first need to settle on a standard panel length. Then you would measure the number of feet of the perimeter being enclosed, and divide this by the the length of each panel. Posts are installed in intervals of the panels' length (e.g. one post every 8 feet), and each post is centered between the panels, which are usually fastened with lag screws - though some metal posts are prepunched for easier mounting.

Fence panels for residential use are typically made from some type of wood, vinyl or metal. Wood fencing panels are a frequent choice. They're not only economical for purchasing prefabricated, but also idea for assembling from scratch. Spruce, redwood and cedar tend to be most weather resistant of woods for this purpose. Wood is an ideal choice for garden fencing. Vinyl, while slightly more expensive up front, has much lower maintenance costs, since it doesn't warp, chip or weather with exposure to rain. Vinyl fence panels can also be purchased in a variety of colors that don't require any additional painting.

For metal residential fences, aluminum and wrought iron fence panels are the main choices. Aluminum is cheaper and lighter than wrought iron, yet offers much of the same look and weather resistance due to the power coating that most manufacturers apply to them. Aluminum fence panels are most frequently used for pools, and general purpose decorative ornamental fencing.
