After downloading the TrashWatch app from the Google Play Store, just a few clicks on an android mobile device will allow anyone anywhere in the world to report trash containers and other sites with stagnant water where mosquitoes are likely to breed.
Mosquito-borne diseases such malaria, dengue and chikungunya account for 17% of the estimated global burden of all infectious diseases. The most deadly, malaria, caused an estimated 627 000 deaths in 2012. The world's fastest growing vector-borne disease is dengue, with a 30-fold increase in disease incidence over the last 50 years. Chikungunya, also transmitted through mosquito bites, did not even exist in the Western Hemisphere prior to November, 2013; but over a million cases have now been reported in the Western Hemisphere alone.
