Pinging checks your network connectivity
Pinging shows a notification on your connectivity level based on accessing a website. It is much more accurate than the default signal bar. It also alerts you once your connection is back up while your screen is off. Thus, it saves you battery and time waiting for the internet to be back especially during tough network conditions.
