Funk music is a beautiful mixture of jazz, R&B, soul music, and Afro-Cuban rhythms imbibed and reassembled by pioneer African-American musicians in New Orleans back in the 1960s. It is highly rhythmic and danceable thanks to increased infusion of electric bass and drum notes. Funk songs are characterized by prolonged vamp on a single chord, making it distinct from soul and R&B songs which are built on a sequence of chords. With its influence from African music, funk usually makes use of instruments like electric guitar, Hammond organ, electric bass, and drums, and sometimes bands use trumpets, saxophones, and trombones.
