BUILT WITH PRIVACY IN MIND

Your messages are stored locally on your device in this app's own database — there's no account to create and nothing is uploaded to a server we run. Backups are left entirely up to you and your device's own backup settings.

WHY SET IT AS YOUR DEFAULT SMS APP?

Android requires a default SMS app to have full access to send, receive, and manage your texts. Messages requests exactly the permissions that role requires (SMS, contacts for caller ID, and phone state for dual-SIM routing) and nothing more.
