Splatter Bug Math

With Splatter Bug Math™, teachers can now ask their students a math equation and enjoy watching them have fun, learn math (with the proven learning enhancer of movement) and play a game with an annoyingly catchy theme song, retro looks, and bugs that blow up.

This game is not designed to be played individually and requires teacher participation.

Classroom Use:

Simply download the app to your android device and attach the device to the projector in your classroom using a long USB (whichever your phone/tablet has) to the HDMI port on the projector. This game is best experienced if you can cast wirelessly from your device to a smartboard by using Chromecast as this will allow you to walk around the room and interact with the students while playing. Depending on the power of the projector, you can cover an entire screen or wall.

Instructions:

1) Download the app to your Android phone, tablet, or Chromebook.

2) Connect the device to a projector by wirelessly casting or using a USB (whichever type your phone/tablet has) to HDMI cord.

3) The game was created for 4 students playing at a time, 2 teams of 2, and can be used for basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using the numbers 1-10. Allow the students to pick a name for their team as this encourages team-work and it’s always enjoyable to see what kind of names they come up with. If the students can’t settle on a team name, use a combination of one word from each student to move things along.

4) In the settings, choose portrait/landscape view or green/white color depending on what looks best on the type screen/wall you are projecting to. You can also turn on/off the annoyingly catch theme music.

5) Ask the 2 students at a time, one from each team, to step up to a line in front of the wall/screen and give them each a round nerf type ball that would be safe for throwing at the screen.

6) Hit Play on the game

7) Pick a number on the back of one of the bugs crawling across the screen and ask your students an equation depending on what your class is learning at the time. For example, if you see the number 6 on the back of one of the bugs crawling across the screen, you can ask the students what is 4+2, 9-3, 2x3 or 12÷2.

8) When the 2 students think they have the right answer, they throw the nerf balls at the bug with the correct number and the teacher presses the bug on their phone when it’s close enough and determines who got the correct answer and that team gets 1 point.

9) The next two students will then step to the line and then you can ask another math equation.

10) The first team to 10 points wins.

Home Use:

Because of COVID-19, many students have not been able to attend class. Although this app was created with classroom use in mind, it can be downloaded to a phone, tablet, Chromebook with touch capability and played with your children at home. Instead of throwing balls at a screen, your child can press the answer to the math equation you ask them directly on your device. Work with them until they get 10 correct answers and they won Splatter Bug Math!
