General Overview

The Match

In tournament, you and/or a friend choose a team of two characters and fight it out in a tag style match. At all times of the match only two characters are on screen (you and your opponent). The round ends when one character on either of the two teams is knocked out (at which point the team with both characters still alive wins the round). This means that you can lose a tekken round without even tagging your partner in during the fight.

Another way for the round to end is by way of timeout. If a time limit is set (you can change or eliminate the clock in the Options menu) anytime the clock reaches zero the team with the highest percentage of cumulative energy is the victor. In the event of a draw, a final round will be added to the match at which point the winner of that round becomes the winner of the match. A tekken match is over when one team has won the amount of rounds that are specified (most commonly best of three rounds).

The Life Bars

Each member of a tekken team has their own life bar. There is a green section and a red section of each life bar. The green is your character’s energy; while the red is the amount of energy your character can gain back when not fighting (or tagged out). There is no way to regain the red section of your life bar unless you are playing in Survival mode or other game modes of that nature.

Certain tekken characters grow angry when their partner is losing. An indication of this is when the life bar of the character that is tagged out starts flashing. When you tag that character in while he/she has a flashing life bar, they will conflict a considerable amount of more damage (depending on the characters paired and the amount of energy your partner has lost), also known as "anger damage".
