About HS Player
Video player with subtitles and gestures — send to Chromecast or your TV
HS Player is a fast, lightweight video player for Android. Play videos stored on your device, open HTTP/HLS network streams, and send them straight to your TV with Chromecast.
■ Local video library
• Every video on your device, automatically organized by folder
• Thumbnails, durations, file sizes and dates at a glance
• Continue watching — unfinished videos gather at the top of Browse
• Mark favorites for quick access
■ Network streams
• Paste an HTTP or HLS (m3u8) URL and play instantly
• Works with your own media server or any public stream address
■ Intuitive gestures (MX Player style)
• Swipe up/down on the left: brightness
• Swipe up/down on the right: volume — boost up to 200%
• Swipe left/right: seek
• Double‑tap: skip backward/forward — 5, 10, 15 or 30 seconds
• Hold the screen for 2x speed, release to go back
• Playback speed control and aspect‑ratio modes (fit / fill / stretch)
■ Comfortable for long sessions
• Screen lock — a pocket or a curious child cannot interrupt the video; hold to unlock
• Repeat (one / all) and shuffle
• Sleep timer — 15 to 90 minutes, “end of this video” or “end of the queue”
• The sound fades out before playback pauses
• Open the play queue from the player and jump to any video
• When the last video ends, replay or go back to the list in one tap
■ Subtitles
• A subtitle file next to your video (.srt/.smi/.ass) loads automatically
• Korean (CP949) subtitles display correctly, not as garbled text
• Open any subtitle file, or pick a track embedded in the video
• Adjust text size, and nudge timing by ±0.5s when it drifts
• Pick the audio track on multi-language files
■ Playlists
• Group videos into playlists
• “Play all” with continuous playback, no interruptions
■ Home‑screen widgets
• Playlist widget: open your playlists right from the home screen
• 1×1 shortcut widget: launch a favorite playlist with one tap
■ Background playback & media controls
• Keeps playing while you use other apps or with the screen off
• Previous / play-pause / next from the lock screen and the notification
• Headset and Bluetooth buttons control playback
• Pauses automatically for calls and other apps' audio, and when headphones are unplugged
■ Picture-in-picture
• Leave the app while playing and keep watching in a small window
• Browse in landscape on tablets and foldables
■ Send to a TV
• Chromecast and Google TV, and Samsung or LG televisions without one (DLNA)
• Subtitles come too — sidecar files are converted and shown on the TV
• Send a whole playlist; the next follows, gaplessly on Chromecast
• While it plays, the phone is the remote: play, skip, seek and TV volume
• Control TV volume with your phone’s volume keys
• Start from a folder, a selection, a playlist or the TV tab
• The last TV you used is remembered, so it connects without searching
• A dropped connection reconnects itself, or hands playback back to the phone
• Videos a television cannot play are flagged before they are sent
• If neither works, HS Player guides you to the system screen‑cast settings
■ More
• Korean and English UI, following your system language
• No account, no servers — favorites, playlists and positions stay on your device
• Free, supported by banner ads
Permissions
• Read videos (READ_MEDIA_VIDEO): required to browse and play videos on your device. Photos and audio are never accessed. On Android 14+ you can grant access to selected videos only.
• Notifications: playback control notification
• Network: stream playback, ads, finding and sending to a TV
• Nearby devices (NEARBY_WIFI_DEVICES): asked for only when a TV search finds nothing. Never used to work out where you are.
