Epicurus (341 BC - 270 BC) was an ancient Greek philosopher. Founded his own school of philosophy, in the name Garden of Epicurus, which is considered the most well-known schools of Greek philosophy.

Was an Athenian citizen, son of Neocles and Chairestratis. His father, an Athenian citizen of the municipality Gargittou hailing from the old illustrious Athenian race of Filaidon participated in the colonization of Samos, where Epicurus raised ("Assistant Neocleous and Chairestratis, Athenian municipalities Gargittios, genus of Filaidon .. . klirouchisanton Athenians Sammon Ekeithe trafinai "- Diogenes Laertius 10.1). Epicurus died in 270 BC at the age of 72 years.
