Born and raised in Reading. From 1951 to 1958 he lived in St. Francis Orphanage, Millmont which is now Alvernia University. Attended the Reading School District, Class of 1969. Attended Reading Area Community College and Penn State Berks before earning a bachelor of science degree in the administration of justice, with honors, from Mountain State University in 2006. He was a member of the Reading School Board from 1979 to 1981. Was elected district judge in 1982. Father of three daughters, Tara, Ashley, and Kyley, and has eight grandchildren.
