The Nusantara Muslim community was introduced to the teachings of Islam for the first time by Walisongo or wali songo.

Walisongo or Wali Songo is a term for 9 sunan who have contributed to spread Islam in Java. Thanks to their hard work, Islam has now developed into a majority country for the population of Indonesia.

Wali Songo or Walisanga was known as a propagator of Islam in Java in the 14th century. They lived in three important areas on the north coast of Java, namely Surabaya-Gresik-Lamongan-Tuban in East Java, Demak-Kudus-Muria in Central Java, and Cirebon in West Java.

Walisongo era or Wali Songo is the era of the end of Hindu-Buddhist domination in Nusantara culture to be replaced with Islamic culture. They are a symbol of the spread of Islam in Indonesia, especially in Java. Of course many other figures also play a role. However, their enormous role in establishing the Islamic Kingdom in Java, as well as its influence on the culture of society at large and direct propaganda, made these Wali Songo more mentioned than others.

From the names of the Walisongo or Wali Songo, in general there are nine names known as the most famous members of Walisongo, namely:

Sunan Gresik or Maulana Malik Ibrahim

Sunan Ampel or Raden Rahmat

Sunan Bonang or Raden Makhdum Ibrahim

Sunan Drajat or Raden Qasim

Sunan Kudus or Ja'far Sadiq

Sunan Giri or Raden Paku or Ainul Yaqin

Sunan Kalijaga or Raden Said

Sunan Muria or Raden Umar Said

Sunan Gunung Jati or Syarif Hidayatullah
