In recent months, Niantic has been promoting events by holding two Community Days at different times. Usually, there is one event each month that highlights a new Pokémon species; however, some of these monthly events also include a "Community Day Classic" where an old favorite from past events returns.
Axew, which was the Community Day Pokémon for June, has already been seen enough by trainers. However, in July's Community Day Classic program, players can expect to see Squirtle - a popular Tiny Turtle Pokémon. During this event on July 5th from 2:00 to 5:00 pm local time, Squirtle will appear more often in the wild as it is one of the original generation one starter Pokemon.
Back in July 2018, Squirtle made its first appearance and now it's returning for a special reason. Pokémon Go is about to celebrate its seventh anniversary next month and what better way to lead the event than with the iconic Pokemon number 007? And you may even come across a Shiny version of Squirtle during this celebration.
The objective for players is to capture as many Squirtle as possible, to progress it into Wartortle and eventually Blastoise before 7:00 pm local time. This guarantees that the ultimate evolution will be able to acquire Hydro Cannon, a powerful Charged Attack capable of dealing up to 90 damage in Gyms and Raids or 80 damage during Trainer Battles.
Moreover, trainers have the opportunity to engage in several research activities that offer various benefits. The Field Research offers a chance to encounter a Squirtle wearing sunglasses, which looks pretty awesome. Additionally, there is a Special Research Story available for $1 on Community Day with multiple rewards up for grabs.
At the Community Day Classic, it is recommended that players make use of all the event bonuses available to them. This includes taking advantage of Lure Modules and Incense which will remain active for three hours instead of their usual duration, as well as benefiting from eggs hatching in only a quarter of their regular distance during this period.
