Puberty delay

Puberty delay or puberty delay is defined as a delay in the onset of secondary sexual characteristics in relation to their normal age of onset.

Puberty is the set of changes that occur in the onset of spermatogenesis (sperm production) in boys.

Overview

Puberty is the transition period between childhood and adolescence. It gives the individual the ability to reproduce.

It is also characterized by the occurrence of secondary sexual characteristics: appearance of hair, moulting (change of voice) etc ..., and an acceleration of growth in size and weight in both sexes.

Thanks to the growth chart that indicates the weight and size of a child, it is possible to look for a more or less recent slowdown in height or the existence of a small size since birth.

Classification

Outside normal puberty, we distinguish:

precocious puberty

delayed puberty

true impuberrism, also called eunuchoidism by some.

The delay of puberty tends to worry the parents and the young boy who does not seem to grow sufficiently, at least at the beginning of the puberty.

Most often, apart from a few rare diseases, children with delayed puberty quickly catch up with friends of the same age with only one year or two years off.
