NEW 2.0 VERSION

The Karvonen Formula is a method of calculating your optimal heart rate range to train either at a fat loss method or cardiovascular method. This range is from 55% to 85% based on your age and resting heart rate.

As you exercise more, your heart is able to efficiently pump more blood to your body. While you are at rest, the number of heartbeats it takes for your heart to pump blood throughout the body decreases. A stronger heart means a stronger pump, which in turn leads to less work for your heart. The Karvonen Formula, devised by Scandinavian physiologist Dr. M. J. Karvonen, takes this into consideration by introducing a number called the heart rate reserve into the equation — the difference between your maximal heart rate and your resting heart rate.

This app does not allow for changes to the heart rate range due to the formula that is used to perform the calculations.
