English

Douay Catholic Bible

Bible (the βίβλια Greek, βίβλιον plural, transl. Biblion, "roll" or "book") 1 2 is the religious text of sacred value for Cristianismo3 4 5, in which the religious interpretation of man's existence on earth motif under Jewish perspective is narrated by humans. It is considered by Christians as divinely inspirada2, and it is a doctrine document. It was the Catholic Church that copilou the Bible, defining what would be the inspired books, which in turn entered the Biblical canon. Later, other Christian groups that have emerged also adopted the Bible as Holy Book. According to tradition, accepted by most Christians, the Bible was written by 40 authors, between 1500 and 450 BC (the Old Testament) and between 45 and 90 AD (the New Testament), totaling a period of almost 1600 years. 6 most historians believe that the date of the first writings considered sacred is much more recent: for example, while the Christian tradition places Moses as the author of the first five books of the Bible (Pentateuch), many scholars agree that were first compiled only after the Babylonian exile, from other texts dating from the tenth and the fourth century before Christ.7 Many scholars also claim that it was written by dozens of people from different regions and nations.

Douay-Rheims Catholic Bible (RHE) with Apocrypha

The Douay-Rheims Bible is a translation of the Bible from the Latin Vulgate into English. It was the first officially authorized Catholic Bible translation in English, and has formed the basis of some later Roman Catholic Bibles in English. It includes the seven Deutero-Canonical books (also known as the Apocrypha).

History

In 1568, English exiles who were members of the college at Douai, in Flanders, founded by William (later Cardinal) Allen, began the work of preparing a Bible translation, which has become the foundation of nearly all English Catholic versions. In October, 1578, Gregory Martin began the work of preparing an English translation of the Bible for Catholic readers, the first such translation into Modern English. Assisting were William Allen, Richard Bristow, Thomas Worthington, and William Reynolds who revised, criticized, and corrected Dr. Martin's work. The college published the New Testament at (Reims/Rhemes) , in 1582 through John Fogny with a preface and explanatory notes.
